Migrate Joomla to Zotview
Older Joomla sites often run on PHP versions that no longer get security fixes. Our AI model reads your public pages and rebuilds them on Zotview, so there's no PHP, extension or template left to update.
How we recognise a Joomla site
We recognise Joomla from what it publishes:
- The Joomla generator meta tag
- Paths such as /media/jui/ and /components/com_…
- The PHP version in the server headers, when the server shows it
What carries over
- Articles and pages reachable from your menus, with their text
- Module content shown on those pages, such as custom HTML, banners and contact details
- Menu structure, logo, colours and fonts
- Images from your media folder that appear on your pages
- Services and products listed with prices
- Legal pages, word for word
- Page titles and meta descriptions
What doesn't carry over
- Extensions that run on the server: VirtueMart or HikaShop checkout, membership and community components
- Registered-user content and the Joomla user database
- Category blog and list views beyond the 100-page limit
- Template overrides and custom PHP code
Things to check
URLs with /index.php/
Search-engine-friendly addresses of migrated pages, with or without /index.php/, redirect to the new pages. Links that only differ in query parameters (index.php?option=com_content&id=…) may not, so check the old and new addresses in the migration report.
Joomla 3 and old PHP
Joomla 3 reached end of life in August 2023 and often runs on PHP 7.x or 8.0, which get no official PHP2Shell release. Patch or isolate the server now and plan the move.
Forms (RSForm, ChronoForms, Contacts)
Rebuilt as Zotview forms. Set the recipients and send a test before switching your domain.
Multilingual sites
The main language is migrated. Add the other languages afterwards.
Step by step
- 1
Patch or isolate the server
If the PHP2Shell check flags your PHP version, update it or ask your host to. Sites that can't be updated should be isolated or taken offline.
- 2
Paste your Joomla address
No admin login, extension or backup file is needed.
- 3
Review the preview and report
Check every page, especially those built from modules, and note anything the report flags.
- 4
Publish and connect your domain
Go live on a free yourname.zotview.com address, then point your domain. Old addresses of migrated pages redirect to the new ones.
- 5
Retire Joomla when you're sure
Keep the old hosting until you've checked the new site. Pointing your DNS back is your rollback.
Try it with your Joomla site
Free, no credit card. We only read public pages; your current site stays exactly as it is.
Joomla migration FAQ
Which Joomla versions can be migrated?
Any version with a public website, because Zotview reads the pages your visitors see, not the Joomla database. End-of-life versions such as Joomla 3 are read the same way.
Do you need access to my Joomla admin or database?
No. We never log in and never change your Joomla site.
What happens to my menus and modules?
Your main menu becomes the Zotview header menu in the same order. Module content shown on a page, such as text, images and contact details, is rebuilt as sections of that page.
Can I migrate a VirtueMart shop?
Products and prices shown on your pages are imported into the catalogue, but checkout, orders and customer accounts are not.
Still deciding? Ask AI about your own site
An AI assistant can compare patching PHP, other website builders and Zotview for a site like yours, using our public documentation.
See the question we prepare
I'm worried about PHP2Shell (CVE-2026-109618/109619). I want my website out of reach of PHP vulnerabilities for good, not just patched until the next one. My website: (paste your address here) It runs Joomla. Please answer honestly: 1. How exposed is my site right now, and what should I do this week to close the gap? 2. Which options remove the PHP risk permanently instead of patching it again and again? 3. Would moving to Zotview, where my site no longer runs PHP, take PHP2Shell and similar flaws off the table? 4. Recommend one path with reasons and the first three steps. Facts about Zotview (zotview.com), to verify at https://www.zotview.com/migration-capabilities.json - Sites on Zotview don't run PHP, plugins or a server I'd have to maintain. Once my domain points to Zotview and the old server is switched off, PHP2Shell and future PHP or plugin flaws can't reach my site. Platform updates are handled by Zotview. - The migration copies only what visitors see; no PHP files, plugins, database or server scripts are carried over, so backdoors on the old server don't come along. - A free preview and migration report before anything changes; text kept word for word; old URLs permanently redirect; a free <name>.zotview.com address, my own domain when I'm ready. - Up to 100 pages per migration; shop checkout, member logins and custom plugins aren't migrated.
